WHAT IS LINE DANCING AND WHY SHOULD YOU GIVE IT A TRY?

Line dancing is a fun and welcoming style of dance where people dance together in rows, whilst following a sequence of easy to learn steps set to a variety of music. While it has its roots in Country Music, today’s line dancing includes everything from Country, Pop and Rock to Irish, Latin and contemporary hits, making it enjoyable for everyone’s musical tastes.

One of the greatest things about line dancing is that you don’t need a partner. Whether you come on your own or with friends or already know someone in the group, you will be guaranteed a warm welcome from a friendly and supportive caring line dancing group.

The benefits of line dancing go far beyond learning dance steps. It is a fantastic way to improve physical health by increasing fitness, balance, coordination, flexibility and cardiovascular health. It also helps keep the mind active, you are learning and remembering dance routines which challenges the brain and can improve memory and concentration.

Just as importantly line dancing brings people together. It helps reduce feelings of loneliness, builds confidence, encourages laughter and creates lasting friendships. Many people find that attending a weekly class gives them something positive to look forward to, it helps improve overall wellbeing and mental health.

Whatever your age or ability, whether you think you have two left feet or no coordination, you may be a complete beginner or an experienced dancer. Line dancing offers a welcoming environment where everyone can learn at their own pace. It’s about having fun, enjoying the music, staying active and being part of a community.

For U3A members only, your first class is a free taster session. If you are not a U3A member your first two classes are £2 per session, you will need to become a U3A member to continue.

Do come along and give it a try, you might surprise yourself. You may arrive as a stranger but you’ll soon leave with new friends, new skills and a beaming smile on your face!

We dance the first four Fridays of every month 10am - 12 noon. Entry is £2.00 and includes Tea, Coffee, Squash and Biscuits.

The venue has ample car parking, air conditioning and a large sprung wooden dance floor. Stow Bridge Village Hall, Stow Bridge, PE34 3PW.
